What sort of mess have we got???

Had internet issues for a few days with my Netgear router getting painfully slow.  Decided to investigate and I'm still pretty much dead in the water.

It works ok in AP mode but will not connect to the internet when connected to port 1 of my Virgin Superhub 3.  I factory reset it this morning - big mistake.  The interface is an abomination.  The device list keeps refreshing and I can't seem to turn it off.  Most of the devices aren't showing an IP address and even fewer have names.  I'm trying to find the IP address of a Pi on the network but it's impossible.

The wifi just dies every few minutes and then comes back again.  Completely unstable.

Tried rolling back the FW to .68 after seeing another post, the admin password wasn't accepted so I had to enter th serial number and answer the 2 security questions (for the second time).  Wouldn't accept those either.  It would work if I left them blank.

I paid good money for this router less than 2 years ago on the assumption that I was getting quality.  This is just rubbish.

Am I doing something wrong or should I throw it in the bin and get something decent?

      It's an R7800.  It was running 1.0.82 but I loaded 1.0.68.

The hub *was* in modem mode but the router just said it couldn't detect the internet connection.  I put the hub back in normal mode and the router in AP mode.  That seems to give some devices and connection to the outside world but that where I have this mess.  I mean, what sort of maniac thinks that a constantly refreshing list which moves around is a good idea?
