wndr3700 AC1900 R7000 reconnected to the internet

I have a netgear wndr3700 that has been in 'mothballs' for the past few years.  I was living in a large house and the signal wouldn't reliably reach some remore sections.  I employed another solution while there. I've since moved to a much smaller apartment where coverage is easier.  The local tech guy connected me to the internet through the wndr3700 and it's working great.  However I miss having access to 'genie' and the freedom it provided for such as creating a guest network.  Without messing up what I have that is working, how can I restore the controls access that Genie provided?  In other words, is there a way/method I can employ to get to my router controls?  I stopped updating firmware and other software during my hiatus from netgear so have no idea where I stand with current updates.

Plain WNDR3700[v1], or WNDR3700v2, or ..., or WNDR3700v5?  Look for
    "Model" on the product label.

"connected" you _how_, exactly?  To what, exactly, is the
    WNDR3700[vX] connected?

Which "genie"?  Ever helpful, Netgear uses the name "Genie" for more
than one thing.  Netgear routers have a web-browser interface called
"Genie", and Netgear has offered application programs for various
computers/tablets/phones, which are also called "Genie".

Don't yet know what that is.

Web browser?  Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual)
model number, and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at
    least).  Read.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Downloads.  (For older versions, under Firmware and
Software Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".)  Find the
kit(s).  Download the kit(s) you want.  Read the "Release Notes" file
for instructions.  (In the User Manual, look for "firmware", and,
especially, for a topic like "Manually Upload Firmware to the Router".)
When that fails because of a deficient User Manual, try:
