You're right. You "shouldn't" have to change the DNS. But it wouldn't be the first time the DNS from and ISP didn't pull up when ran through a 3rd party router.
Its a pretty easy test to change DNS. Make sure to do it for both IPv4 and IPv6 if you have IPv6 enabled.
Might even be worth checking if there's a faster DNS for your area while you're at it.
I use this site. I don't always pick the fastest but it gives a good idea of what speeds are like.
