Feature Request: Add Static Routing Support to RS100 Firmware
I’m requesting that Netgear add basic static routing support to the RS100 firmware.
The RS100 is marketed as a high‑performance home router, but it currently lacks the ability to define static routes between internal subnets. This prevents common and increasingly standard home network designs, including:
- Server or homelab networks on a separate subnet
- IoT isolation using downstream routers
- Guest or segmented internal networks
- Clean inter‑subnet routing without double‑NAT
Without static routing, the RS100 cannot forward traffic between internal networks via downstream gateways. Older Netgear routers/earlier firmware branches supported static routing, and competing routers at similar or lower price points continue to offer this capability. The absence of static routing on the RS100 represents a functional regression for users who need basic multi‑subnet support. This forces users to either accept double‑NAT (which breaks discovery protocols and complicates DNS), upgrade to significantly more expensive models such as the RS700, install 3rd part firmware, or leave your platform.
This request is not for enterprise features such as VLAN tagging, policy routing, or advanced firewalling. It is simply for the ability to define destination networks and next‑hop IP addresses so the router can perform basic inter‑subnet routing.
Adding static routing would significantly improve the RS100’s usefulness for modern home networks and prevent customers from being forced into unnecessary hardware upgrades or third‑party firmware.
Essentially we have hit the line where routers stop being routers.
I’ve also discussed this with Netgear support, who after having me install all the previous firmware versions, confirmed the RS100 does not currently support static routing and advised buying the RS700 and submitting this as a feature request.

It appears (to me) that the RS100 is the least costly and least powerful of seven WiFi7 routers offered by Netgear. Pretty obviously the "runt of the litter." I see no obvious reason for the RS100 not to provide Static Routes, which Netgear routers have provided for years and other RS models do. ( It would seem to be more trouble to remove the feature than to simply leave it alone.)
p.s. If the RS100 can still be returned, it might be worth considering. A feature change is not likely to happen quickly (if at all).
