Nighthawk RS300 latency

I have been using the Nighthawk RS300 for the last couple of months and I now constantly end up with dropped Teams and Zoom calls and general lag.

I have realized that upload and download speeds are 30% through the RS300 than when plugged directly in to my Rogers Xfinity modem. Worse still, is that latency is dramatically worse through the RS300, with 158 down and 83 up.

Are others experiencing issues with dropped calls and lag? Are there any suggestions to resolve this?

I am on firmware version 1.0.1.90

  • What rogers modem do you have?

    What latency are you getting?

What actual speed do you pay for?

What speed are you getting wired?

    Are you using IPv6?

How about the stock DNS? have you changed DNS?

  • Thanks for your reply. In answer to your questions:

I have the Rogers Xfinity Gen 3 modem. I am using the modem in bridge mode.

My avg latency is around 180 down and 85 up. However, I have constant spikes up to 250, with no obvious reason.

I'm paying for the 500mbs package.

I'm using a wired connection, but wifi (on different devices) produces the same results.

    I don't believe I'm using Ipv6.

I haven't changed the DNS, I'm using the one assigned by the ISP. However, I do have Dynamic DNS setup for VPN service.

    Thanks

Which model modem? Gen 3 could be any device.
How do you know its in bridge mode? What happens if you put it in router mode and the orbi in access point mode?

You said you're getting those latencies over wired? What do you get connected to the modem?

VPN's increase latency big time because everything is send through the VPN with encryption. So instead of you clicking on a website and it being sent directly to you, its sent through your VPN provider and then to you with encryption .That adds latency. If you're wanting lower latency, stop going through a VPN. Cloudfare wrote an article about it. Feel free to check it here:
