RS200 doesn't recognize Ethernet cable

Update: it works fine if I run the cable from the modem through a switch and then another cable to the RS200 (they're all CAT5 and worked fine with the old router). It's not ideal but it works.

That's good, but I suggest replacing that setup with a cat-6a patch cable. They are quite inexpensive.
There are several possible reasons why CAT5 might not work well (particularly if they are ordinary CAT5 and not CAT5E). You might want to run a speed test, and see if you are getting the full internet speed you are paying for.
