RS500 Upload speed test

I have an RS500 connected to Fiber modem. I have symmetrical 2G down and 2G up.

Using the Netgear app, the Speedtest from the router shows 2G down no problem.

My upload speed couldn’t get above 100M.  I disabled QoS and now I get about 800 M upload.

I can’t seem to find anything else so I can get the full upload speed from my ISP.

The ISP gave me an Eero router and that shows full 2 Gb up. iSP also confirmed the full speed at the modem.

I have the latest firmware and did reset to factory settings.

Does anybody have a suggestion on settings on the RS 500 so I can see the full upload speed?

  • BINGO!  I should have thought of that!

PC hardwired in did the trick.

    Full speed in both directions

what modem is it connected to?

Do you have IPv6 enabled or disabled?

Have you tried a different speedtest site? Which are you using?

What are you device are you testing on?

Are you using parental controls/access controls? Try disabling and rebooting after disabled.

The modem is a fiber modem from my ISP. I don’t have access to that part.

The Speedtest is from the Netgear RS500 router itself. When you log into the RS500web interface, it has a built in speed test function.  Also same using the Netgear app on the phone.

I don’t have any access control controls enabled or Armor.

    1. look at the modem/gateway, it'll have some ID on it. That helps check if its a double nat. Not all devices handle double nat's ok.
    2. Try hardwiring a pc/laptop into the router and test its speed with that. It wouldn't be the first time the built in app picked a poor server to test from. it used to be a massive issue when people started getting gigabit speeds and the test servers could max it out. With a pc based test, you can change the test server. With the built in, you can't. It auto selects and it might not be picking a good server since you're hitting 2 gig speeds up/down.
