RS600 not connecting to Internet

My RS600 router has yet to connect to the internet.

I wanted a top of the line router but am having serious doubts about this product.

I have been on tech support calls about 4 times as spent several hours troubleshooting.

I get my internet from GoogleFiber/WebPass right out of the wall.

My Synology router connects just fine.

I can also connect my M4 MacBookPro directly without any issues.

But the RS600 does not recognize it.

I did hook up the RS600 to my Synology and that works but I don’t want a $500 product to be dependent on another router.

My patience is about to run out and I am not sure what to do.

  • A couple of googles gateways require a specific router to be attached. Did you contact google fiber to see if you have one of the ones that support a bring your own device?

Or if there's any specific settings (like vlan) to be entered in?

  • OK - so I think I resolved this issue. Not very elegant and I hope Netgear pays attention.

Here is what I did this morning:

    1) connected my ethernet cable from the wall (GoodgleFiber/WebPass) to a switch (that I had lying around - as a spare)

    2) connected the Nighthawk RS600 to the switch - nothing else connected to the switch except the power cable

This allowed me - for the first time - to get the router to recognize the internet. and to complete the installation - including a firmware update).

As I said - not elegant - and I definitely should not have to do it this way.

It is a Linksys switch (I had lying around)

Nothing else will be connected to it
