Also, try disabling firewall/security software. And add 8.8.8.8 as secondary DNS in the network settings.

mdgm-ntgr: I take it the port forwarding would have to be done on the client's router forwarded to the NAS unit's IP and the set the same port in the RNR client software? I have tried that already, but will try again.
JennC: Do you mean disable the firewall/security software & set the DNS on the client's workstation or on the NAS unit / router? I have already tried disabling the firewall on the workstation, it didn't help.
Attached is the leafp2p log (I've just hashed out the IP addresses and usernames)
It looks like it does establish a connection between the client and NAS unit, but then the connection is closed again.
