ReadyNASRNDP6000v2 - reset not working display only shows REadyNAS
Hi, My ReadyNAS just displaying READYNAS on the dislay screen. My laptop can't detect the drive. I can't even reset. Pleae, can someone advice what I could do? I have important data on the dr...
The power supply is most often the issue with the older NAS, but there are plenty of other things that can cause your NAS to just display ReadyNAS. That's the hardware default, and all it needs is 5V to show that display -- the motherboard does not even need to complete POST. Using a fairly easy to create adapter cable, a standard ATX supply can be used externally to verify the power supply is the problem before you seek out a replacement SFX supply. The Seasonic supply Netgear used is no longer available and, apparently, the one I have been recommending as a replacement is also now unavailble save a couple eBay vendors.
You can also check that the RAM is seated OK and possibly try a replacement. Unless you moved it rather roughly, it's unlikely it became unseated. There is a USB header inside the unit and connecting that to a monitor lets you observe any BIOS messages, which can help in diagnosis. He was using it to install FreeNAS, but the part about the VGA header still app[lies to you.
Your title says Pro-6, but you selected RN628x in the model field. If you actually do have a RN628x, then you should check the warranty status on my.netgear.com. The warranty is 5 years (but doesn't extend to used purchases).
Assuming you really have the Pro-6 (which is more likely):
Your symptoms suggest a failed power supply in the NAS (in particular, that is it only supplying 5 volts). It is possible to purchase and install a new power supply (though you can't get that from Netgear). You can also purchase a new x86 OS-6 ReadyNAS (current models include the RN420, RN520, RN620 series). If your RAID volume wasn't damaged by the failure, then you can temporarily put them into the replacement NAS. One option you might consider is to do both. Then you could re-purpose your Pro-6 as a backup to the new NAS. RAID redundancy is useful, but it is not enough to keep your data safe. Having one or more backups on different devices is the best way to do that. So whatever path you pick, you should put a backup plan in place for your files (whether it be USB drives, or a backup NAS).

I went around hunting for power supply so took me a while but just now I came across an option to buy Netgear ReadyNAS NV+.
Q1. Can I add my ReadyNas Pro6 harddisk with data on it on this ReadyNas NV+ and will it work without loosing my data?
Q2. Can I use ReadyNas NV+ power supply in ReadyNas Pro 6 and will it work?

Unfortunately not. You could migrate to an Ultra, or another Pro, But not the NV+.

Again, no.
The NV+ is a much older and slower then your Pro6 and cannot be upgraded to OS6. I hope you didn't pay very much for it.
