Compiling on ReadyNas DUO

Nothing, really. You're just experiencing that what looks like a simple compile task can quickly grow into unimagined dimensions when done on the ReadyNAS ;)
Any special reason you want to build 1.2.19 and not a newer version? Anyway, the problem is that on the ReadyNAS the ExtUtils::MakeMaker module from the perl-modules package is missing. You can try to re-install using "apt-get install --reinstall perl-modules" but you have to make sure to get the correct version which can be identified by the "-infrant2" in its name. As an alternative I can build a version for you or you try to build one yourself from the GPL source archive. Be warned that the GPL source archive contains a version of Perl that is newer than the one shipping with firmware 4.1.8 so you may have to replace the whole Perl stuff.
