D-link 932L

Ello there!

I did a quick search on the forum to see if I can find answers to my queries but wasn't able to locate, so apologies if this has been discussed numerous times.

Just recently picked up the ReadyNAS Ultra 6 and installed Surveillance and I have a few Qs.

1: My camera doesn't show up on the list, so I just select the 920 model. Both the 920 and my 932L support motion but the option to record on motion is greyed out.
2: If I choose "Always record", where exactly does the software store the video to? I can't find it anywhere.

Help!

Many thanks!

  • If the record on motion is greyed out the camera API is probably different between the 920 and the 932L. You can try other Dlink model numbers to see if another model number uses the same API.

The surveillance recordings are on a hidden share. This is to prevent tampering/accidental deletions/etc. Plus the data stored is in a proprietary format so it can't be used as-is. Of course you can ssh into the box and see the actual files if needed.
  • Thanks for the update!

I've tried numerous Dlink models without any success. The models that do allow the motion button, the app can't connect to my camera. The funny thing is that the 920 specs show that it supports motion. Anyway of modifying the 920 driver?

As for the record location, sweet. So how does normal Joe view the files? Only method is to SSH?

    Thanks!
  • You need to use the ReadyNAS Surveillance app for playback.

You can export the video into a standard video format from within the playback window as well. That is what you would need to do to share the video with someone.
  • Ugh, I think I'm going to give up on this app.

It's not supported anymore, iPhone app is old and I've got to use an older version of IE.

I'm sure the surveillance add-on recorded some footage, I want to delete any hidden recordings.

Will removing the add-on delete these files?
  • Deleting the app will not delete the data.
You'll need to ssh into the box and manually delete the /surveillance share
