Hi Someone-here , your external harddisk might not be compatible to the nas.
However, one thing I would try, anyways. Just blank the disk, which means, there should be nothing on it, not the slightest partition. Then connect it to your RN314. Go to the admin page and see, whether it is recognized. If yes, you will be able format it using the admin page.
