Installing Plex Media Server on NV+
Hi,
I am trying to install the addon for Plex Media Server onto my NV+ (understanding I won't be able to transcode) which I am fine with.
If I try to do it from Frontview, I get the error "Invalid Checksum" which leads me to think that the addon is not compatible. Over at plex.tv forums they suggest it is due to it not working on non x86 machines, however the addon is designed for ARM and compatibility lists on Wiki all say it should work.
So.... I thought I might try SSH in and install the add on that way. The one forum I found on this suggests I should be able to use tar -xzf plex.bin but it suggest the .bin is not a valid tar file.... so I cannot go forward.
So I am a bit stuck.... any ideas?
If I could work out where the Repo is, I might be able to use apt-get? Or something else??

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat version of RAIDiator are you running?
Sounds like you have a NV+ (v1 - Sparc) which is incapable of running Plex. - cclambieAspirantSorry, I should of specified... 4.1.7
Model: ReadyNAS NV+ [X-RAID]
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.7 [1.00a043]
Memory: 512 MB [2.5-3-3-7]
That would be rather sad :( I can pull out another machine... or just upgrade... which I have been thinking about for a while... I have only 15% of space left... so maybe I should do that... - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou have a v1 (Sparc) as I suspected.
You cannot migrate your array to a newer NAS. Need to buy a new NAS and new disks and e.g. Transfer your data across your network. - cclambieAspirantOhr... that is a bit sad. Well thanks for letting me know.
I appreciate the support. I am a total ReadyNas fan, and this community is another great reason to be one :)
Cheers
For future people searching this topic.... How did you know this was a Sparc from the info I gave you? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired4.1.x and earlier firmware is for Sparc devices.
The NV+ v2 (ARM) was released late 2011 (whereas you joined the forum much earlier) and the error you got trying to install the add-on suggested you were attempting to install an add-on for a different device to what you got.
Have a read of http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how-to-tell-whether-i-have-a-duo-v1-or-duo-v2-or-nv-v1-or-nv-v2/ - cclambieAspirant

That probably covers it....

Yes I have had my ReadyNas since 2007, still going strong. Doubled the capacity twice since owning it, loving X-Raid.
But seems I should upgrade... mind I will just run Plex Media Server on another machine for now, seems easier (should I say cheaper) at this stage... - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThere is a Plex NAS compatibility list. If you want to run PMS on a NAS if you need to transcode you will need to look to getting a NAS with an Intel CPU and if you need to transcode high quality video it will need to have a powerful Intel CPU not an Atom one.
- cclambieAspirantYes, I thought my NAS was on that list :( I doesn't specify Radiator version.... oh well, all good though... thanks again.
