IP Surveillance made simple with NETGEAR

Just receieved the email -
Small businesses and corporate branch offices require a secure way to protect physical assets, but often lack the security expertise or big budget that most solutions require.

With these challenges in mind, NETGEAR® introduces ReadyNAS® Surveillance, easy-to-use network video recording (NVR) software that installs directly to a ReadyNAS storage device. Add a set of cameras to a Power over Ethernet ProSafe® switch and your surveillance network is up and running in no time.

I must say impressive list of supported cameras. x86 only and limited to 16 devices per box. What I want to know - how much is a license? I can't find pricing on RNNVR01L-10000S (single cam license).

Bravo Netgear! This is one we have been asking for for quite a while, cannot wait to test it out!

  • $95 per camera license according to press release. Not too shabby.

Also says it will be generally available May 16th.
  • The ReadyNAS Surveillance application is an add-on and comes with a free 30-day trial. (Starts from when you install the add-on). There are three licenses available:

RNNVR01L-10000S: ReadyNAS Surveillance Single Camera license
    RNNVR02L-10000S: ReadyNAS Surveillance 2-camera license
    RNNVR04L-10000S: ReadyNAS Surveillance 4-camera license

    The license is electronic.
  • Also was looking for pricing info, and found this thread. So $95/camera, but the documentation talks about license expiration. Is thre a time-limit for licenses?
  • I can't seem to find pricing or details such as how much is a 16 camera license. What exactly is included. Is this just software or is it a complete system minus cameras. What hardware do I need. can you connect multiple system together. Does it have any memory? What functions can it do? I see some literature that shows a tower and some that shows a PoE Switch. I see literature that talks about how much memory it takes to operate 30 high res cameras is the system include adequate memory or do I supply it myself. I am trying to put together pricing for about 30 cameras But it needs to be expandable to at least twice that maybe more. I have to put together pricing for a complete package i want to use an IP based system. But I don't know exactly what the Netgear ReadyNAS is nor can I find anybody that can tell me if this is a solution to my problem or is it just a small part of the solution or no solution at all.

To get a 16 camera license you'd get four 4-camera licenses I think.

You can look up the specs for the ReadyNAS you are interested in to see how much RAM it has. Desktop x86 ReadyNAS have 1GB RAM installed. Rackmount units have more. NetGear does not support 3rd party memory upgrades.
  • Thanks for the reply but I am seeing the literature such as. http://www.net-security.org/secworld.php?id=12893:

Small businesses and corporate branch offices require powerful and sophisticated options for protecting physical assets, but may lack deep expertise or big budgets. Netgear ReadyNAS Surveillance wraps four critical Netgear components into a suite for the first time:•The new Netgear ReadyNAS Surveillance Network Video Recorder (NVR) software includes intelligent search, digital watermark and e-mapping technology and supports up to 16 simultaneous cameras, including megapixel and HD models. Video may be viewed on the Web or played back on mobile clients, including iPhone, iPad, Android, and BlackBerry devices.
•The Netgear ReadyNAS family of network storage devices is an uncompromising business-class video platform. For example, the Pro 2 model offers up to 80Mbps (240 fps @1.3M, H.264).
•NNetgear ProSafe Smart and Managed switches feature Netgear ProSafe hallmarks: VLAN support, Power over Ethernet, QoS, stacking technologies and simple installation.
•Five Netgear Network Management Software (NMS200) licenses are also included. NMS200 is a single management platform for Netgear devices, ensuring connectivity, configuration and monitoring across all storage and switching components. Additional licenses are available to cover multi-site installations.
Netgear ReadyNAS Surveillance is available on a free 30-day trial basis (16-camera license) and will be generally available on May 16. List pricing starts at $95 per camera license with volume discounts available.

I am trying to put together a quote for an entire system. What I don't want to do is quote a price and find out that it requires alot more Hardware. I understand it doesn't have cameras. The customer wants to expand the system to other sites and be able to see it all from his office so if I have multiple systems in different locations can they be accessed from a central location. Can I export video in a standard format like .avi to a large data storage center. The customer wants to be able to increase the data storage (record time) in the future. So if the video software is stored in a format that is not compatable with a standard codec and requires something else to view history in a storage bank. Some of the cameras are in places that need some offsite storage to maintain possibly for years. Safe from burglury or fire. I guess I would like to get a spec sheet that includes components and performance.
  • I have about five televisions in my house that are all on the same cable wiring system for watching TV. Can I tap into this same wiring and go to a security camera and be able to watch the camera? Will it work this way, or do I need to run a seperate line from the camera to the TV? I hope I can just tap into the cable company wiring on the side of my house because that's where the camera is....this would be so much easier.

The cameras and viewing application use your computer network, not your cable tv network.
