Is PLEX compatibile with ReadyNAS 420 Series

Neither ReadyNas RN422 nor 424 are the PLEX compatibility list.

Yet PLEX is listed in the Add-on Applications section of the ReadyNAS 420 Series.

If one also consider that RN31X models are on the PLEX compatibility list it looks really strange that the 420 Series is not compatible.

Cannot understand if is only a problem of updating the list, or if there is some real issue.

Does anyone know if PLEX runs on a RN424?

I got 2x 1080 video streams on the 42x series. If there are other tasks running, then 1x 1080p stream easily.

A while ago when I was testing plex with 31x, I think I barely got 1x 720p stream.

Netgear doesn't distribute plex, so it actually shouldn't be listed under available apps for any ReadyNAS.  If you mean the NAS list on Plex, then I think it's simply not there because it's a relatively new model.  You could bring that to their attention.

It should work fine on your RN42x NAS, just download the OS 6 x86 binary from https://www.plex.tv/downloads/ and upload that binary on the apps page.

I'm not sure on the transcoding performance, you'll have to try it and see I guess.  The RN42x CPU has a slower clock rate, but it is a newer processor that supports SSE4.1 / SSE4.2 instructions (which the RN31x CPU doesn't).

I agree that Netgear does not distribute Plex, but it is listed as a supported third pary app in the netgear data sheetand is also referenced in knowledge base of netgear (see link ReadyNAS OS 6: Plex Installation & Setup)

The list on the netgear KB appear the same as on the plex website one. Maybe as you say is just question of updating the list also for Netgear.

Most probably I will try to install and will report if it works. If anybody has additional info would be appreciated.
