My ReadyNAS Duo V2 and Plex
Dear Forum Members
I've have a problem that seem to have popped up today and I am somewhat lost as to what is causing the symptoms I am seeing, but first my equipment.
ReadyNAS Duo V2 (running firmware 5.3.11)
2 x 2TB WD Green HD using X-Raid 2 with 1TB free space
Plex Media Server v0.9.11.16.958-80f1748
Now TV Smart Box (Roku Lite Clone) running Plex-NowTV-2_8_2
At this stage I don't think listing my PC equipment or router would be useful.
OK, this is my problem, I was trying to watch a short 10 minute video this morning when it kept buffering, i.e. stop reload then start 3 or 4 times, I abandoned this film and tried another one and got the same results. I first thought that the videos were faulty so I tried one that I had played flawlessly two days ago and got the same results. Finally, I tried a feature film which played for two or three minutes before buffering (stopping, reloading and starting), the film went on for another 3 or so minutes before buffering again, after this I stopped the film.
A few things crossed my mind at this stage, i.e. was my ReadyNAS overheating, I checked and found that it was working at a steady 33C, I then checked the logs and that seemed clear of any visible problems, I thought that my router may be having problems or had a recent firmware upgrade but it seems to be working as normal. I have even checked my Now TV Smart Box for updates or upgrades and that also appears to working as normal.
So, all the above leads me back to a possible unknown/unforeseen problem with my ReadyNAS.
Any suggestions or possible solutions will be gratefully received.

PS. I have already downloaded my RN log for examination if needed.
PPS. I will now switch off my RN for a few hours.

Is plex running on the duo or a PC?
- ukbobboyLuminary
Hi StephenB
Plex is running on my ReadyNAS as is my saved videos, music and TV Shows, sorry if I did not make that clear.
You might have seen that I am running an older version of Plex Media Server, i.e. version 0.9.11.16.958-80f1748 (released March 2015), because the next version (version 0.9.12x) has caused problems for numerous NAS users.
BTW, it seems that when I play my music it is not affacted by this "buffering" problem.

Hi again StephenB
Guess what, after switching off my ReadyNAS for a few hours and then switching it on again, my ReadyNAS seems to be working properly again.
OK, I'm not sure what switching off and on again did but it did do the trick, I think I'll take my RN to a computer shop in the new year to get the dust cleaned out and possibly a few bits replaced.
My next question is, apart from the fan, are there any other replaceable parts in a ReadyNAS Duo V2 that I can have swapped out without affecting the machines performance and durability?
