Printing a file from the shell.
I can see no way of setting up access to a printer from the admin page. I can see no apps which will help setup a printer. Within SSH the 'lp' command is disabled. Whilst working, I get fed up ...

Have you tried that?
Oh that sounds interesting ...
My printers support airprint.
Can you just explain something to me re the apps.
If it is listed in the pages accessible from the ReadyNAS admin page => Apps etc, does that mean that they are approved/tested by Netgear.
Equally if it is an 'outside' apps, does that mean it is NOT approved ny Netgear?
Thanks for the prompt I will give it a go and respond on this post.
Okay ... had a look at the app and unhappy with more messing about.
Everything I try to do always seems to get bogged down somwhere, somehow:)
I NOW have the access to most of the ReadyNAS from my PC via Samba (I believe) in the Network folder.
So I will close this post.

Hi BaJohn,
If it's on OS6, there's no function or feature that will let you add a printer but in Legacy NAS units, its possible though.
Kind regards,

You could try the CUPS add-on from super_poussin. There's a link here: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Current-NETGEAR-and-Partners/Addons-available-For-R6/td-p/842756
I think that supports a directly attached printer, but not a network printer. I also doubt that it installs lp.
Generally I just copy the file to a temp share (not sure why you'd need to use ftp on a local network). Anything in \data\.apps can of course be accessed directy from windows.

I remember now ... I did all the CUPS thingy about a year ago ... (You've just reminded me).
It was an absolute disaster and I spent many hours on trying to get it to work, although that was (I believe CUPS via an USB connection)
Anyway .... consider this post a 'dead duck'.
