As I said on the other thread, MP4 works with plex.
The bitrate is a more complex question - it depends on network speed/quality on the path between the RN100 and your remote device.
For SD video, ~1 mbit total gives decent quality. 128 kbits stereo AAC for audio, and the rest for AVC/H.264 video. Typical resolution for an SD widescreen rip is 720x404.
720p video is usually around 4-5 mbits.
I use my own tool for transcoding. Handbrake was mentioned on the other thread, and is a popular freeware package.

I started having problems with the Plex app. Tried to upgrade it, it would not upgrade. So I tried to uninstall it.....it would not uninstall, then it would not work.
I called tech support. Got transferred FOUR times. When they said they were going to transfer me again, I said never mind.
I returned the 102.
Plex on the 102 is not ready for prime time. The 102 OS is not ready for apps or prime time. Shame. Physically a nice unit. It is great for you HOME LAN use, but not for cloud use.
I still like my Duo v1, but since the 102 would not work with the cloud, there was no point in keeping it.
I am not unskilled in computers. I worked in the Navy, for the government, and for IBM. I can recognize botched software when I see it.
