Remove Debian build-essential Compiler tool after Finished?

I wanted to run the No-ip DDNS dameon on my ReadyNas Ultra2 plus running os6. In order to do this i had to compile the NO-IP tar on my Readynas. I followed the instructions to installing the compiler here...

http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/debian-linux-install-gnu-gcc-compiler/

# apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
# apt-get install build-essential
# gcc -v
# make -v

I managed to get everything running ok. Including startup script for NO-IP!!!! I will post a turtorial later.

My question is how do you remove the compiler libraries when they are no longer needed? And or Remove all un-needed packages to clear up the OS partition?

  • There is no harm leaving them there. They don't take up a lot of space. And when not compiling stuff, it doesn't consume CPU/memory.
