Unable to connect to MySQL server

The solution was to SSH in (what I wasn't aware of, and why I has requested a guide) was that the SSH user had to be root, not admin, or another account I had created.
After setting the bind address to 0.0.0.0 (and restarting MySQL) my issue was resolved.
Might be worth mentioning for anyone else that comes across this that at the least on a readynas 316 on OS6, there is no need for MySQLON - I assume this advice is for different and/or past models.
