You don't need to install software. But there are some barriers to accessing it.

We should double-check the model before going any further.  From your description, I am thinking it is a ReadyNAS Duo

    Is correct?

If it is, also confirm that the text on the front says "ReadyNAS Duo", and NOT "ReadyNAS Duo v2" or something else

      Hi,

      You are spot on

      It says ReadyNASDuo

Thanks.  That is the original Duo - there is a later Duo v2 model.  Despite the v2 you are seeing in the other labels, you have the original (the labeling is very confusing).  We generally call your model the "Duo v1" here.

As far as access goes, there are two main paths.

One is to connect disk 1 to a Windows PC (using either SATA or a USB adapter/dock) and then install R-linux for Windows (freeware)

If that does not show the files, then you should try disk 2.

The second is to try to access the NAS over the network.  You will need to enable the SMB 1/CIFS client on the Windows PC (using "turn windows features on or off").  Then try entering \\nas-ip-address (using the real NAS IP address) into the address bar of File Explorer.  Be careful to use // - if you use // you will end up opening your browser.

You likely will need to enter a username/password.  Do you recall the admin password of your NAS?
