APC ES650 UPS unrealistic duration estimate
I replaced APC ES550 with a new APC ES650 UPS for a ReadyNAS Pro Business Edition running RAIDiator 4.2.19. The estimate of remaining battery life for ES550 was reasonably accurate. However the estima...

Yes, that will calibrate the runtime. You can also just wait two weeks; the UPS does a self-test every 14 days that should calibrate the runtime more-or-less accurately.
If you want to do a manual calibration (and incidentally also test the NAS's response to the shutdown signal from the UPS):
- Make sure that the UPS is fully charged and your data is backed up.
- Shut down the NAS. Unplug its power cable and all other devices from the UPS, but leave the USB cable connected between the UPS and the NAS.
- Plug the NAS into another AC outlet (preferably another UPS, but could be any outlet if you're confident that your AC power will be stable for the next 20 minutes or so) and turn it on.
- Plug two 60-watt lamps (or the equivalent) into the UPS and turn them on (the recommended load for accurate calibration is 1/3 of the UPS's rating, and your UPS is rated for 390 watts).
- Put earplugs in and unplug the UPS from the wall.
- Watch the NAS; it should cleanly shut down while the lamps are still lit.
- Let the UPS battery discharge all the way.
- Unplug the lamps and plug the UPS back into the wall. If you can leave the NAS off for a while, or if the NAS is plugged into another UPS, let the discharged UPS battery charge for 8 hours before you plug the NAS back into it.
- Once the battery is fully charged, Frontview will report the accurate runtime.
Frequent deep discharge isn't great for the battery, so don't do this manual calibration more than once a year or so.
