Can I use it ReadyNas as a server?

I am setting up my home office network which is a combination of wireless and wired. It contains 3 laptops, 1 desktop and will have 6 users, 1 of them occasionally remote. My question is- can I use readyNAS as my server, such that each user has a username and password and can log on from any of the computers with file access specific to each user name? or would I have to purchase a separate server and add it on for this to work? Thanks for your help and advice :D

  • The ReadyNAS line are small servers. You should set up separate user accounts for each user (unless you want each user to access all files) and the best way to do this is to have the userid/password with which they sign onto the computer be equal to the userid/password they are set up on the NAS with. While Windows will accept a two word userid, the ReadyNAS will not. There is more about permissions in the user guide.
