Western Digital is having a 50% off sale on their 20TD Drives (either Red 3.5: NAS HDD or Gold SATA HDD). I have a ReadyNAS 4220X with 7 - 4TB WD Drives in it already in a RAID6 Volume. I have 2 questions: 1.) Does the 4220X support these Drives? 2.) Is it possible to add 4 of these drives and create an Additional RAID6 Volume? Any suggestions/direction would be greatly appreciated. MatRN104 - 18 TB HDDs
Hi, because I couldnt find any information upfront I tested now 2 different 18 TB HDDs in the ReadyNas RN104 by myself. - Toshiba MG09 18 TB - (MAMR) - 32.000 kbytes/s avg. write speed - 30.000 kbytes/s avg. read speed- not encrypted - Seagate Exos X18 18 TB - 25.000 kbytes/s avg. write speed - 29.000 kbytes/s avg. read speed - not encrypted Both are working fine, but not very fast which is imho because of the slow CPU in the NAS.Does anyone have any experience with the Netgear ReadyNAS 4200?
Hey everyone! I've been contemplating adding on some type of storage to my lab as I'm at about 55% of 10Tb used. Locally on craigslist a ReadyNAS 4200 (I'm waiting to hear back on the exact model and features it has) has come up for sale, which any type of rackmount gear is a rare find in my area. It comes with 6 x 1 Tb drives in it, which would leave me with another 6 bays open. The seller wants $400 for it. I haven't been able to find much about the system on reddit, or generally anywhere. So I'd appreciate any input, or advice on the unit. Thanks.Temporary files getting created all over the place, ReadyNAS 312
Hi Everyone I was using my RN312 as a backup solution, untill COVID-19 happened. Due to my limited staff size - I decided to make it my primary file server and used a WD NAS as the backup solution. No problem with speed and usage since I shifted. However, a peculiar problem has been happening which doesn't actually hamper my working as much - but it has a tremendous nuisance value. As you can see from the caption - *.TMP files are getting created all over the place and makes the folder that I am working in - VERY VERY MESSY. And the files are not even getting deleted on their own. And the temporary files - not just the ones that MS Office creates, these are some other ones which are getting created on their own. My simple question - How to stop this creation of TMP files from happening? There are around 15 client PC's which are accessing this NAS to work on. These files are getting created irrespective of which client PC is used (Win 10 and 7). So my guess is - it is not due to the client PC's themselves, but rather a setting in the RN312 which I am missing. I have attached a screenshot which I hope will help the community to understand my problem (and hopefully provide a solution)!! Fingers crossed. My NAS Model is - RN312 Firmware - 6.10.3SolvedWD Red Hard Disks: CMR vs SMR
Dear Forum Members, especially StephenB It's been a time since I've visited the hallowed pages of this forum and, as expected, time as moved on and new HD technologies have been introduced. I'm planning to buy a couple of WD Red HDs in the near future but I see now, since the last time I bought WD Reds, a new technology has been introduced, i.e. SMR, but the older CMR tech is still being used and in fact still recommended by some WD Red users. However, as a ReadyNAS user I would like to know what forum members think about the Red drives with SMR, as opposed to the Red drives still using CMR. Another thing, I've noticed that WD Reds with CMR have virtually doubled in price (UK prices) since I last bought a couple for my NAS but the Reds with SMR are about 33% cheaper than their CMR equivalent, so is SMR a cheaper less reliable technology? I eagerly await forum members opinions. UK BobSolvedStreaming from ReadyNAS without password
Hi all :) I work in a small staff (7 persons). We analyze sport videos with a dedicated software. This software basically opens a video file. As we have tons of videos to store and share, my idea is to stop copying videos on 7 personal computers and switch to a Negear ReadyNAS so - I can work less - I can manage better the files - We can access them trough our local network - We can access them trough the internet My question is... Do you think it would be possible for me to access the videos without any login? I'm worried that once I set the url of the video in our software, then it wouldn't be possible to play it, because of the protected access on the ReadyNAS. Any advice?Basic Questions about RR2304, RN3138, RR2312
Hello, I'm looking for a NAS to store video camera data for a security system I'm trying to get some basic information about the following models without success. RR2304, RN3138 Do these models support RAID1? What is the maximum size hard drive they can accomodate? RR2312 What is the maximum size hard drive it can accomodate? Does this model support RAID5? If Yes to RAID5, how many hot spares can be configured? Will it add additional drives to a RAID5 array without data loss? Thank youReadyNAS Question Before Purchase
I currently have a ReadyNAS 628X in my home which is working well. Other than the RAID 5 setup, I don't have a true backup solution. I am considering purchasing a second ReadyNAS to use as my backup to my NAS. I'd like to place this offsite so that it is safe from theft, fires and floods. Will the software that comes with ReadyNAS allow automatic backups across the internet to my second NAS? I haven't really used any of the ReadyNAS software other than the PLEX server. Also, I've noticed that quite a large amount of my NAS storage space is used up by "snapshots". I guess those are a type of backup, but residing on the same hard disks. Is there a way to decrease the amount of snapshots or turn them off entirely? What do people recommend about snapshots? Thanks!
