Cant detect disc. Possible to recover it?

Try http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/ It should let you see the contents of the disk on the PC.
For the voodoo tricks, you could try support.netgear.com But I suggest making a backup first.
If you want to recover your data, make sure the NAS is powered down when you re-insert your drives.
