How do I get files back that I have deleted from the NAS by mistake?&nbsp;

If there are no snapshots that hold the file, then recovering a deleted file is problematic.&nbsp; There is a btrfs-undelete script out there, but I've never attempted to use it.

Enabling snapshots can help you recover a deleted file.&nbsp; So can a backup - and if you use the NAS as primary storage you should have a backup plan in place.&nbsp; RAID isn't enough to keep your data safe.

I'm not sure why you are mentioning set quota.&nbsp; If you are wanting to manage the snapshot space, the best approach is to use the custom snapshot setting, and set the desired retention.&nbsp; You can tune that over time to control the snapshot space.

Thanks Stephen,I have created a snapshot on the main Share folder Videos and it created a 7.4TB size folder in /data/Videos/snapshot as I checked Allow Snapshot access, but the path to the snapshot folder path is greyed out and I cannot change.I understand your point RAID5 isn't enough to backup data, so I have a 6TB Hard drive in the PC, can I at least forward items deleted from the NAS to this drive? just like a recycling bin in Windows?I updated this RN314 NAS to 4x10TB drives last month and brought another RN214 NAS to use my older 4x4TB drives, could I back up to the RN214 NAS? it is also configured as RAID5, I'm storing my XBOX and PS3 games, total 4TB on this NAS so 8TB free space.What would you suggest I do?&nbsp;&nbsp;

Well, you can't change the path by design. You can copy files back into the main share.&nbsp;

Personally I don't allow snapshot access from the PC.&nbsp; Even with it disabled, with Windows 10 you can still right-click on a folder and roll it back to a previous version.&nbsp; You click "allow access to Windows Previous Versions" for that (at least with custom snapshots).&nbsp; You can also browse the snapshots from the web admin UI, and restore files/folders from there.

When you browse the snapshot, are you seeing the missing files?&nbsp; Of course you will only see them if you created the snapshot before you deleted the files.

There's no automatic mechanism to copy off deleted items.&nbsp; What you can do is back up shares to that hard drive (and also to your rn214).
&nbsp;
The way to do this on the RN214 is to create share there that matches one on the RN314, and set up a backup job on one of the NAS that backs up the corresponding RN314 share.&nbsp; The rsync protocol is the best choice for this.&nbsp; You can set up a schedule to automatically run that backup job, or you can run it manually.&nbsp; If you do run it automatically, then you might want to enable snapshots on the destination share also.

It's possible to use a backup job on the NAS with the PC hard drive as the destination too.&nbsp; However, I'd suggest using a utility on the PC to copy the files from the NAS instead.&nbsp; There are some free utilities out there (FreeFileSync being one).
