Directly connecting to RN628X

I have an old RN628X that I can't connect to an LAN.  Is it possible to directly connect to it and use it as an external drive?

  • If you mean there is something wrong with the NAS and it will not connect via Ethernet, then, no.  If it is a location or other issue that simply doesn't allow you to make a physical connection to the LAN, you can directly connect your computer to it via Ethernet and set a static IP address on the computer to something in the same subnet as it reports on the screen or via RAIDar (192.168.168.xxx, if memory serves).  A USB to Ethernet adapter for the computer is an easy way to do that if the Ethenet port is already in use.

If you are wondering if you can connect to the NAS via USB, the answer to that is also no.

But if you give more detail on why you can't connect to your network, we may be able to help you remedy that.

I think that answers my question.  We aren't allowed to have servers on our ethernet, so I was hoping I could still utilize it as a direct connect external hard drive.  Thank you for your help!

One option that might be possible is to connect the ethernet on the RN628x directly to your PC (using wifi to connect to the network).  Then you can set up a static address on the RN628x, and access the files.
