Disappeared files and maintenance readynas 516

Hello I have a readynar 516 with 6 4 tb disks, I would like to know if it can be useful to do a defragmentation or uni scrumb, or if it can cause more harm than good.
I have not noticed since yesterday that some folders or files start to disappear and it seems anomalous to me.

bes regards

I do recommend running all the maintenance functions periodically - I run one each month (cycling through all four 3 times over the year).  However, the defrag is the least useful (and if you use snapshots, it will reduce your free space).

Files disappearing is not a good sign (and the maintenance functions probably won't help).  Do you have a backup of your data?

If you have snapshots enabled on the shares, you can see if the missing files are in the snapshots.  You might also want to download the full log zip file, and look for btrfs and disk errors in system.log and kernel.log.

      Guide

Hello, I am attaching the nas logos, I do not see any particular errors, but I am not an expert. Is it possible to understand if the files and folders have been accidentally deleted by an operator, or by a NAS error? About 70 folders have disappeared, almost all recovered from the previous day's snapshot, while a few were recovered from the August snapshot (so they disappeared a few months ago).

I was thinking the files were lost due to file system corruption - which often would show up as either BTRFS errors or disk errors around the time the files disappeared. But if the files were in the snapshots, then it is far more likely that they were simply deleted.

There aren't many automated processes in the NAS that will delete user files. Backup jobs have the only one I can think of off hand - there is an option there to delete the contents of the backup destination before running a full backup.  I think operator error is much more likely.

6.10.x firmware has an audit log capability, which would give you more visibility into deletions in the future - might be worth turning that on.  You could also increase the snapshot frequency (using the "only make snapshots when changes" option)
