Getting New NAS question
I currently has a ReadyNAS 524X with 4 8TB drives, one serving as a parity check drive. I am looking into an 8 bay ReadyNAS RN626X/RX628X. I have three questions about the process and I hope some...

The volume is expandable, in general you can't add in smaller drives to the existing array.
You could switch to FlexRAID, and create as second 4x4 TB RAID-5 volume. That would have have the space of your current volume (12 TB or ~10.9 TiB). Yhen you can shift some of your shares to the second volume.

Not something I've ever needed to do. It should be ok, as long as you don't block the airflow.
