How can you tell if ReadyNas drive encryption is switched on?

How can one tell if the volumes in a Readynas have drive encrption turned on?

I have inherited a ReadyNas 312 with firmware 6.10.3.

Volume says it is X-Raid Raid1

  • Is there a USB thumb drive connected to the NAS (which would be needed to hold the key if the volume is encrypted).

Is there any content on the volume that you care about?

I agree with StephenB. If the previous owner provided you a thumb drive with the NAS or if I'm correct there should be a key icon on the volume. The volume on the NAS is encrypted.

Encryption is only available upon creation of the volume. If it is encrypted and you need access to it but you don't have the key, the data inside may not be recovered and you will have to destroy the volume to be able to remove the encryption.

If you need to destroy the volume, you may need to turn off the X-RAID before doing so.
