I removed the disk from the USB enclosure and installed it in a PC as the only SATA drive. I then booted the PC with a Knoppix 7 live CD. It did not show up in Knoppix although it was recognized by the BIOS.
My Linux is limited (as are most PC users) so I believe that I must manually mount the disk. So more research.
It seems like getting to data on a disk that has been removed from a ReadyNAS is not as simple as I would have believed.
