Well... sod it, just pumped for 6*WD30EFRX as replacements for the Seagates. Hopefully that'll resolve any issues for the foreseeable future.
Does anyone know a way to determine why the NAS thinks the Seagate drives are dead while they're still in situ?
Unfortunately they're all just described as "Dead" and the SMART button is greyed out.
