NAS drive ENCRYPT/DECRYPT Thumb drive failure

I haven't tried doing what you're trying to do.
What Text Editor did you use?
Rather than using a basic text editor like Notepad I'd suggest using something more advanced like Notepad++.
Notepad++ does a good job of preserving formatting.
You could remove your disks (label order), create a new encrypted volume with a scratch disk (must not be from your array), then try modifying that key file using Notepad++ (if things are meant to be one line make sure it shows up as that in the Text Editor) and then power down, remove the scratch disk, put your disks back in and see if it works.
There must not be a newline (LF and/or CR) at the end of the text strring. Using an editor like Notepad++ and then verifying in hex edit mode that there is no 0A and/or 0D at the end is good for that.
