When you use the V1 supply with the V2, check the connector and see if it's getting warm. If it is, then you may still have a poor connection. If it isn't, then the issue likely was in the connector on the other supply. That replacement ReadyNAS supply does sound like a good option. While you may be able to simply replace the connector on the old supply, I wouldn't risk it with the low cost of a new supply.

Is the power socket on the v2 damaged? Or is it just the connector on the power brick?

The damage appears to be limited to the connector on the power brick, where damage can be seen on both the external and internal plastic parts. There's a small amount of smoke residual on the outside of the NAS at the power socket, but I was able to power it using a similar power supply from a V1 so I could make a backup.
