Is the NAS working properly?
In other words, are you trying to recover files that were deleted? Not trying to recover a failed volume?

The NAS works properly, and yes, I'm trying to recover files that were deleted. They are mostly pretty old work project files and folders that I didn't think I needed, and then surprise, some projects have been resurected.
The 102 is an older device and the hard drives are also older now, and I'm keen to recover anything I can and move it to another storage space.

If they were deleted a long time ago, then it is likely that the data has been overwritten (in some or most), even if the metadata structures are intact. You should begin by rebooting the NAS read-only to make sure nothing else is overwritten.
Also, you might check whatever snapshots you have left (simply turning them off doesn't delete existing ones).
There are a couple of scripts out there - among others
I haven't used them myself, and you should be careful to read the caveats in the readmes in any scripts if you try them.
