New file (date driven) with each backup

I have a Readynas 2304 that runs automated backups once a day. Issue is the new backup overwrites the file. What I need to do is have a new file, defined by date, for each backup. Perhaps set it up to have a number of files before it starts a FIFO operation of sorts.

Is there any way to accomplish this?

The way I handle this is that I have custom snapshots set up on the destination share of the backup.  I set them up for 3 months of retention (though of course you can use a different setting).  The snapshot schedule is set to take the snapshot shortly before the backup(s) start.  This ensures that the snapshot is not made while the backup is updating the destination.

The backups themselves are all rsync jobs that run on the destination NAS.  "Remove deleted files on target" is set in the advanced settings.

The result is that the backup share itself is a mirror of the source.  But I can browse into the snapshots to get older versions of files (or folders) if I need them.  While this is not exactly the same as a versioned backup, it serves the same purpose for me.

And, more importantly, this is the only way to accomplish it with the built-in backup methods.  I do exactly the same thing.
