New ReadyNas 214 Owner

Yes, performance will be slower during the initial resync but the initial resync is a special case where the volume is redundant the whole time. The RN214 is the most powerful of our home models with ARM CPUs.
The ReadyNAS 300 series was released back in 2013. The ReadyNAS RN214 was released about a year ago and shares similar hardware with the RN204 that was released early last year, with the key difference being the much more powerful CPU in the RN214.
We just released the ReadyNAS RN526X but that's multiple times the price of the RN214.
We just released 6.5.2 and we are working on 6.6.0 (currently in beta) for all our ReadyNAS OS 6 models.
We don't comment on what our roadmap is, but you can look back at our release dates for various products in the past and come to your own conclusions. Past history doesn't necessarily indicate what will happen in the future however.
Though not supported some users are running ReadyNAS OS 6 on x86 models we released 8 years ago back in 2008. One would think that x86 models whether officially supported or not would be likely to continue to be able to run our OS for longer, but it is difficult to predict the future.
At some point we do have to draw the line and EOL support for products and you see this with our competitors as well.
One of the reasons I went with Readynas was for the community support and this post proves that I made a good choice! As for your comments, I choice the 214 based on the specs of the arm cpu and felt that I really didn't need to spend the extra money on a x86 NAS at this point.
My use case for the device will be for Plex support, backups (mac and windows clients) and misc. other files shares all of which didn't work nearly as well on my Drobo. I did upgrade to 6.5.2 this morning and things seem to still be very stable and I am evaluating if I should take the plunge and run beta firmware on the device.

I think you made a good choice getting the RN214. It's a great model and if at some point your needs change in the future you could get a higher end model at some point.
I love using Plex and it's my favourite app for the ReadyNAS.
