Newbie Questions - just been given an old RNDP600 - need to update & configure

Hi to all,

Apologies in advance for the length of this message.  I've recently been given a ReadyNAS RNDP6000 for use at home as a media server (its got some content already loaded that I want to keep).  I want to update it, reconfigure the users accounts (admin plus 2 other users) & reconfigure some of the set-up without losing the existing content.  The NAS is now visible on the home network.  However, I cannot seem to do very much when viewed in Windows (10 Pro) whereas with my MacBook (High Sierra 10.13.4) the NAS Content is fully accessible with full edit control??   In addition to the this windows versus Mac issues I am also having a range of other problems......

  1. I constantly get the following error message:  "168.1.145 says  Error in evaluating table display tul ReferenceError: tul_display is not defined".  I’ve looked on this forum & a number of people report this being due to Browser compatibility issues which was fixed by upgrading the firmware.  I have tried to upgrade the firmware:  Wizard Mode > Update > Remote> Check for update.  When I click it doesn’t do anything.  I thought it would go to the Netgear website & access the update downloads??  Can someone advise how I update the firmware.....either automatically or manually??
  2. NAS Switching off. The NAS appear to switch-itself off after a period of time & when it does this is disappears from the network.  How to I set-up the sleep/energy saving/wake-up configuration.
  3. Setting-up User Accounts.  The NAS currently has the original owners single Admin account (I have the login / password.  I want to change the current User accounts to the following:  Update the Admin account to my new details:  new login, new password & new Email.  I then want to add a number of new user accounts so these users can access/stream the media content, once added.
  4. I want to set-up a new Cloud/remote access facility so that I can port documents/photos/files between my various devices (iPhone, MacBook, iPad, windows laptop - whilst on the move).  Is this possible & if so how?

Thanks in advance

What firmware are you running on the NAS?

If you want cloud-access options, then your best approach is to convert the NAS to run OS-6.  However, you should get it running properly on OS 4, and make sure it's running the current bios before you do that.  FWIW, the conversion process is destructive, so you will need to back up the data on the NAS that you want to keep.
