Hello all, after a power failure, I'm restart the NAS and I got at the RAIDar the information for "check filesystem 0% to 100%". At the "check filesystem 100%" it stay there for a while, about 3 mi...

Nothing. This is a user-to-user forum, where folks help each other out. I like helping others, and have never charged (or accepted any compensation) for it.
AndyP-CH wrote:
Why do I have from my NAS only a data transfer rate about 22MB/s.
Has it something to do within the ethernet cabels or is my ReadyNAS not able to be faster?
This is because of the speed of your ReadyNAS. It uses a very old custom processor (~2005), and doesn't have much memory. It's very power-efficient, and offered competitive performance back in it's prime. But by today's standards it is very slow. Note the fastest speed you will see with gigabit ethernet with any NAS is around ~100-125 MB/s. (125 megabytes per second is the same as one gigabit per second).
As far as cabling goes, you want to be using at least CAT-5E cable with gigabit ethernet (and preferably CAT-6 - at least for longer cable runs). Usually the CAT rating is printed somewhere on the cable.

Stephen,
Thank you very much for your great and efficient help, I'm appreciate that a lot!
some other questions:
- Do I'm running the disk test from the Boot Menu, start the "Disk Test"?
- My I use the last Configuration Zip file for Configuration, I've performed last Dezember 2021?
- Do you have for me the DLNA Add On to install or is that SW at the latest RAIDiator V.# firmware already implemented

AndyP-CH wrote:

I'd forgotten your ReadyNAS model when I suggested the disk test. The newer NAS let you do that from the web ui, but yours does not.
You can run the disk test from the boot menu instead - you'll need to use RAIDar to see the results.
AndyP-CH wrote:- My I use the last Configuration Zip file for Configuration, I've performed last Dezember 2021?
You can, but make sure any add-ons are installed first.
AndyP-CH wrote:

I'm prepare a paper for the procedure. The "factory reset".
And it's not clear, how I would be able to start the "Disk Test".
At the documentation on page 15, there is at the Boot Menu Description, the "DiskTest" listed.
And on Page 16 are the different Actions "to perform" shown .... but there is no refrence to the "Disk Test".
Please clearify me.

I agree, the disk test is missing in the table on page 16.
It's not something I've needed (I always use vendor tools in a PC) - so I don't know how to invoke it.
Unless a mod (or maybe mdgm ) chime in, I think we'll need to drop that idea.
- AndyP-CHFeb 14, 2022Aspirant
I'm not sure, if I had installed one of the Add-ons for FireFly for iTunes / Crossfire / BitTorrent.
I'm just stored those at the disk.
8 years ago I was working on it. I never used it. But I'm not sure now if I hade uninstalled it. But I didn't used it.
What's the worst scenario about it, when I'm install the configuration from Dec 2021. - AndyP-CHFeb 15, 2022Aspirant
Hi Stephen
to you have some time for me?
Before I'm perform the factory reset, do we have any chance (over telnet) to fix the defective configuration and / or files and / or the file structure at the NAS?
B.T.W.
Sorry, I missed to give you the information for:
As I'm tried to boot the system lately, I got the eMail alert within the date and time for "RIAD is synchronizing".
But I never got an eMail alert after for the RAID has synchronized to the end.

Which of course means it didn't finish.

At this point we don't have any good evidence that there are any issues with the configuration or OS generally. As I said earlier, the symptoms make this hard to diagnose.
I think the factory reset is the way to go. If that fails to sync, then the next step after that is to test both the disks in a PC (with the adapter/dock).
Since you aren't sure about the add-on status, I'd also suggest not restoring the config file - instead rebuild the NAS manually. Capture a list of your shares first (perhaps make a screenshot of file explorer).

Hi Stephen
Do you have an idea, plase.
I got the Dokingstation, it contains 2 slots for SATA drives 3.5" and 2.5" drives
I got one new Spare Drive Seagate BarraCuda green SATA III - 2 TB 3.5" 7200rpm. It looks the same as I have already at the nas.
I have my basic drive # 1 Seagate BarraCuda green SATA III - 2 TB 3.5" 5600rpm
And I have the 2 drives at the NAS (not touching at the moment) ... the same as basic drive.
I have now some excercises on the R-Linux to restore datas from the basic drive.
I'm able to recover datas to my Win10 PC ... only to the local HDD.
It isn't that easy now. Because I've stored on my PC (approx.40GB left) the datas as I'm mounted the NAS within telnet.
I'm able to produce a SW-image within R-Linux from the Drive. But how / or where should I store that image?
Is R-Linux able to store the image directly to the drive on slot # 2 (spare Drive) next at the dokingstation?
May I read the datas directly from the image to store them to the local machine and after to the share?
How would you proceed?
N.B.
I'm able to clone drives on the Dokingstation, clone the drive # 2 from the NAS .... I guess that's the solution ...!?

AndyP-CH wrote:

There's no need to use R-Linux if you were also able to off-load all of the files over the network.
But generally, if you format the drive in the other bay, then you should be able to write data to that drive. That should include writing directly from R-Linux, or copying files over the network (or from the PC hard drive).
One thing to be careful about - if you use the spare for backing up the files, you can't directly put it into the NAS to import the data. The NAS uses a different file system, and it will format the drive when you insert it.
AndyP-CH wrote:

Cloning can be useful, but not for this.
AndyP-CH wrote:

I would have gone with IronWolf. Some of the desktop drives are SMR (not CMR). That includes new 2 TB BarraCudas. Try looking up the datasheet for your specific model number, and make sure it is CMR. https://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/cmr-smr-list/
SMR drives might be ok in your older ReadyNAS (although write performance can be very poor). People have had issues with them in newer models (running 6.x.x firmware).
- AndyP-CHFeb 16, 2022Aspirant
I don't like to change the NAS ... also not to a newer or bigger one.
I still like the ReadyNAS Duo V1.
Should I clone drive # 2 or drive # 1?
- AndyP-CHFeb 16, 2022Aspirant
I'm confused now
- AndyP-CHFeb 16, 2022Aspirant
What do you mean. how should I proceed?
1. clone the drive # 2 or # 1 ... which one ? Or how should I backup the datas from the NAS?
2. NAS reset to factory, within the old drive # 1 and # 2 inserted
2. configure the NAS
4. insert the cloneed spare drive isn't a solution, because NAS will formate it ... you told
5. at the end I have to copy the datas over the network to the nas.... or what do you suggest?
- AndyP-CHFeb 16, 2022Aspirant
Why is in my case cloning not usefull?

AndyP-CH wrote:

Because it looks like you need to do a factory default, which reformats the drives anyway.
As a reminder, the original suggestion to get the dock was to allow
- allow you to copy off data with r-linux (different from cloning)
- allow you to test the drives with vendor tools (Seatools in your case)
If would make sense for you to test the drives after you get the data copied. We can revisit cloning after we see the results of the tests.
- AndyP-CHFeb 16, 2022Aspirant

I'll do that at the end as my datas are completelly stored and save for me to use!

1. allow you to copy off data with r-linux (different from cloning)
Yes, I can do that if I have enough HDD space on my PC again. For the moment this isn't the case.
2. allow you to test the drives with vendor tools (Seatools in your case)
Yes, that's a good idea.
N.B. R-Linux told me (already and verry quick) that the spare drive is not save to use
If would make sense for you to test the drives after you get the data copied. We can revisit cloning after we see the results of the tests.
Yes, I like to get my datas before I perform some tests (data save first).
R-Linux impressed me at the first sight, the intend from is data save first.
In my oppinion, the drive test is hardware to test ... I like to have my datas first. And afterward comes the Hardware test.

Hi Stephen
I'm performed the disk tests within R-Linux V.5.6.175721 and CristalDiskInfo V.8.12.4
The Disk # 1 from the NAS Slot # 1 is fine, NO S.M.A.R.T. Errors
everything looks fine
The Disk # 2 from the NAS Slot # 2 has the S.M.A.R.T. Error (Vorsicht)
aktuell schwebende Sektoren 100 94 0
Unkorrigierbare Sektoren 100 94 0
N.B. I'm never swaped the drives from slot # 1 to slot # 2 and vice versa!
Question:
As I'm boot the NAS within just the Disk # 1 in Slot # 1, why was the NAS not comming ready?
Is it just because the NAS is configured as X-RAID ...
And it was searching the volumes at the Drive # 2?
That Drive # 2, as we know now, has faults -> within R-Linux I got the information: no volumes are seen
May we have a chance to get the NAS ready as we boot with the Drive # 1 installed at Slot # 1 and a new drive installed at Slot # 2?

The Duo, Duo v2, RN100, and RN200 series NAS were all intended for home users.
AndyP-CH wrote:

Is it just because the NAS is configured as X-RAID ...
It's not because the NAS is using X-RAID.
I have no explanation for that. But I do know that it would be difficult for us to figure it out and repair it - and that it would turn out to be faster to do the factory reset, reconfigure the NAS, and restore the files from the backup. Plus the reset ensures that everything is clean - no chance that we would miss something.

Likely it does need to be replaced. WD Red Plus (not a WD Red) or a Seagate Ironwolf are my recommended replacements (not the barracuda you purchased). It's possible that the barracuda will work - but generally I don't recommend using SMR drives in a NAS. (google "shingled magnetic recording" if you want more info on this).
Not sure if your tests included a full generic test (reading all the sectors) or not. If you didn't run that on disk 1, then I suggest you do that. Both the vendor tools (Seatools and the WD dashboard) have that option.
Suitable disks (< 2 TB) are fairly inexpensive, so another option is to just replace both disks. Then you'd still have the original disk 1 intact, just in case you missed something when you offloaded the data.

Wht's about Netgear new products?
Netgear hasn't introduced a new ReadyNAS model since 2017, and there are some here who've heard that Netgear is exiting the NAS market. While no one has told me that, it is very believable. Inventory for ReadyNAS is quite scarce, and a lot of the inventory you do see is over priced.
Synology and QNAP are both established NAS vendors, but I can't really recommend either as I've never owned one.

Hi Stephen
On Saturday, I was able to set my ReadyNas Duo to factory default.
Everything was running fine, and it's running fine.
I'm not fully finish to copy all the datas back to it now.
I think ... I got a little bit more performance with the new Drives.
It's my guess ...
Networkperformance (max. values):
read write
Seagate BarraCuda green 21 MB/s 12 MB/s
Seagate IronWolf 32 MB/s 18.2 MB/s
