That depends on how you were you doing the copy.
BTW, if you were doing drag+drop from a PC you would get better performance by hooking up the USB drive to the PC. Otherwise the data gets pulled to the PC from the NAS and pushed out again from the PC back to the NAS.
If you are copying from a PC, then a utility that can verify (or at least resume) would be the best approach. Teracopy for instance.
