RAM Upgrade - Pro 2 - 2210
Hey guys -
Apologies if this info is located somewhere else, but I cannot seem to find answer.
I'm using Egnyte's Office Local Cloud software on our ReadyNAS Pro 2210. Egnyte's not written very well, so if you have >100,000 files you need more than 1 GB of RAM. Thus the need for the upgrade.
1 - What RAM should I use? I can't find any listings of hardware compatibility
2 - If there hasn't been RAM tested for this system yet, how do I go about picking RAM properly to reduce my chances of failure? I've seen a number of instances where Kingston has been recommended, but not sure where else to go from there.
3 - Can I put a DIMM in the slot or must I use a SODIMM? A number of posts seem to have tested DIMMs .
I don't really care what I use, I just would like it to work!
Thanks for your help!

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired1) Please read http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=83. Memory upgrades are not supported.
2) Pick RAM that matches the specs of your current RAM as closely as possible including the physical layout.
3) Same as answer to 2.
Be sure to run at least a few passes of the memory test (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu) before trusting the memory. Even then the memory may be incompatible. - WillC1AspirantOh, I'm well aware it's not supported. Need to do it anyway, or we're going to continue to have errors. Thankfully, SODIMMs aren't that expensive, so it's not so much trouble if it doesn't work.
Thanks for the post! If the memory I test works, I'll come back and report. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf it doesn't work properly but passes the memory test you could get data corruption.
- WillC1AspirantHow can I check if it works properly if not through the memory test?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe memory test will give you a good indication as to whether a module will work or not generally, but it's not infallible. Memory manufacturers have a bad habit of changing memory modules rendering them incompatible yet keeping the same module number. So module uggestions made a while ago regarding your model may no longer be valid.
- WillC1AspirantThanks for the help mdgm.
Why does Netgear not have supported modules? I realize the gains aren't significant for some users, but if they want to support this product surely this would be a common sense step in doing so... - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe stock module is supported and is sufficient for most users. Since memory manufacturers have changed memory modules rendering new versions incompatible but didn't change the module numbers, NetGear can't have a supported list.
- AFH_ITAspirantHey WillC,
I too use Egnyte local cloud and have a Netgear NAS PRO 2. Same as you, i found out months later that 1 GB of RAM isn't gonna work with Egnyte's setup. Did you find a RAM upgrade for your system? - WillC1AspirantNo - unfortunately when I tried 2 different RAM upgrades, it bricked the NAS Chassis. I returned the NAS (not including the HDs) and had to figure out a different way to sort it out.
We're entering our pilot stage with Egnyte - and I'm a little wary of how unreliable and needy Egnyte will be. Lots of horror stories about how their Customer Service is non-responsive and they spend more time developing a terrible web client than sorting out issues like this on the hardware. They tell me the file quantity limitation is in the works for being fixed, but I'm not certain I can trust them to get it done any time soon. - AFH_ITAspirantWell dang. I just bought a 4gb RAM upgrade from crucial.com but got nowhere it working once installed. Egnyte has been somewhat helpful thus far, they tell me their newest OLC version will use less RAM but I wish they had advised me from the start as to which NAS to buy.
