For what it's worth, I have successfully set this up with an APC RT5000 XL (SURTD5000XLI) and an AP9619 management card.
I installed the NUT server on a Linux box and configured it to talk to the APC using the snmp-ups driver and the apcc MIB. At this point, I was able to query the status of the APC from any box on my network running the NUT client.
However, when I tried to tell the ReadyNAS to use the NUT instance on the Linux box for monitoring, it complained that it couldn't connect to it.
With tcpdump(8), I soon figured out what was going on. The ReadyNAS expects the UPS to be called -- oddly enough -- UPS in the NUT config. (Is this documented anywhere?) I'd called mine apc. Once I'd renamed it in /etc/ups/ups.conf and restarted the NUT server, the ReadyNAS was able to connect to it.

It's cool to be able to have the ReadyNAS's UPS monitoring work with non-USB APC units with a management card, but it would be nice if the extra computer running NUT weren't needed. I'd like to add my name to the petition to have this integrated straight into the ReadyNAS.
I suppose I could hack the ReadyNAS to run the NUT server with snmp-ups itself, but I'd rather not open that can of worms if I can avoid it.
