Re install OS to old legacy Readynas Pro with OS 6

Question

Hi,&nbsp;I manage to mesh up my old ReadyNas Pro (currently OS 6). It won't done completely boot and freeze to some % of booting. Boot % value change each booting attempt. Last time it was 98%.&nbsp;&nbsp;But. It never goes end of boot and SSH or HTTP(S) or FTP(S) is not working.&nbsp;I have try to reinstall OS multiple times but it won't help. I assuming that / mount was full and OS "backup" is not good anymore. Could be something else.&nbsp;There is (of course) some data what I 'd like to save before factory reset. Not sure if that helps either.I'd like to reinstall OS from USB but this is legacy device so normal procedure won't work.Have anyone instruction how to a) connect to device or b) reinstall OS from USB?&nbsp;-JeIlMa&nbsp;&nbsp;

If the root is full, then doing an OS-reinstall won't help.&nbsp; If you are comfortable with ssh, you could boot in tech&nbsp;mode and take a look.&nbsp; Let us know if you need instructions on that.

For USB recovery, you would follow the instructions for OS 4.2, except you'd put an OS-6 image on the drive.

Thanks for the answer.&nbsp;Root was full but I mange to clean it up a little already earlier. I think firmware files on device has been corrupted during all my attempts or some other reason.&nbsp;&nbsp;USB recovery with OS4.2 tool is not working because it seems to be so old that it won't work in my WIN10 laptop. Error was some "like-to-like" and exe file won't start. I try compatible mode but no help. I also try to install some MS components but no luck there.&nbsp;So next thing was trying to log in with Tech Mode and that I manage to do. Before doing anything I remove all my disks and put one old disk in to device. I assuming that firmware files are in devices flash memory (not in disk and I could be wrong). I also download OS6 firmware and using binwalk I create tar file from it.Then I try to drop it to flash memory but didn't understand how to do it. I can connect USB stick to device in tech mode. Any instruction how to copy all needed firmware files to correct place in device?After that I plan to do OS reinstall.&nbsp;-JeIlMa&nbsp;&nbsp;

Did you run the exe as admin?

Any instruction how to copy all needed firmware files to correct place in device?After that I plan to do OS reinstall.&nbsp;You are definitely not going about this correctly.&nbsp; The flash contains a compressed image of a clean OS, whose sole purpose is to install onto the drive(s).&nbsp; The OS that the NAS normally boots from is on the drives, as is the update file before it's put into flash.&nbsp; When you booted with the scratch drive, did it boot and want you to create a volume?&nbsp; If so, then your flash is fine and you shouldn't be messing with it.&nbsp; No matter what, you definitely shouldn't be trying to install some homemade tarball to it.&nbsp; If it didn't boot with the scratch drive, USB recovery is the right method.&nbsp; It does more than just put an OS image in flash, it makes the flash bootable, including using the reset button menu, and sets it up to copy that image to your drives.&nbsp;Though I've not had to, there have been those who have said they needed to create a USB recovery media running it as administrator.

Yes I did run it as adminstrator.&nbsp;Problem with USB recovery tools was missing visio components. I install some old packets and manage to create USB recovery stick with OS 6 image.&nbsp;-JeIlMa
