Ready NAS 104 Apps Archive needed
Hi I have a Ready NAS 104 that I bought new years ago and loaded up with drives. I could never work out how to get it to sync to my laptops to backup my data so I gave up.
Today I decided to try again. I updated its firmware ok but when I tried to access the Apps section it said it was no longer supported as of last year. WTF 🤬😭
Can anyone point me to an archived location for these Apps?
The NAS is virtually brand new never used. I'd really like to still use it. The drives only have a few hours run time even.
I have a little bit of Linux knowledge so I'm prepared to install stuff manually if necessary.

FreeFileSync is one of several options. FWIW, I use Acronis TrueImage this way myself, though it's probably not the best option for a new install.
These tools can be run on a schedule if desired, and can even wake up the PC when the backup is supposed to run. Though generally I run them manually on my laptops, and schedule them on my desktops.

Apps are getting hard to install, due to the deprecation of Debian 8 linux (which is used by the NAS). There are some changes needed to the apt configuration, these are discussed here:
Posts 1 and 37 are the most relevant on the apt config.
However, post 16 is relevant to your archive question. All the apps (along with other Netgear stuff) are archived on apt.readynas.com. While you can't access that using your browser, you can make a local copy on the NAS using apt-mirror. The most recent distributiion (for arm platforms) can be copied locally by including this in mirror.list:
deb-armel https://apt.readynas.com/packages/readynasos 6.10.10 updates apps main deb-armhf https://apt.readynas.com/packages/readynasos 6.10.10 updates apps main
But you can grab copies of the distribution for earlier releases by simply modifying the release number in the above
Also, if you have installed 6.10.10, you should consider downgrading to 6.10.9. That will re-enable the ability to manually install deb files from the web ui. Note you still need to make the changes in the above thread to install anything (whether from the web ui, or using ssh).
- vk4akpAspirantThanks for all the good info.
I mainly just want to backup all my personal live data on each Windows machine. Things like the documents directory etc.
I don't actually want to image the complete drive or anything high end like that.
The other reason for wanting apps is to get something like WinSCP but on the nas to pull some files from a friend's server overseas.
I'll start working with what you've told me so far soon. Thanks again.

The NAS does have a backup job facility that you could set up for laptops, but in my experience you are better off running something that is hosted on the PCs.

Backup jobs can use rsync (including rsync over ssh), or ftp to copy folders to a destination on the NAS, and the backups can be scheduled. There's nothing interactive (like WinSCP) though.
If you map a share to a drive letter on a PC, you can also just run WinSCP on a PC if you like (with the NAS share as the destination).
