It might be possible to have an power setting that says "shut the system down at time X but if the disks are active wait until they have been inactive for M minutes".

But I don't see how the NAS could ask for user confirmation on your PC when you are using SMB. Or FTP, DLNA, iTunes Server, AFP, NFS, etc. There is no mechanism for it to use.
If you want to reduce power usage while leaving the NAS available, then why not use "enable disk spin-down"?
By default the RN102 has snapshots enabled. Any deleted files are shifted to the snapshot (so no space is freed up).
