When you add a new user, it sends their password to the admin email in plain text. Email is not a secure information transport and can not be trusted with that kind of information. This is a major security flaw I think and pretty standard no-no in the application security realm. I would at least like this to be a configurable option, at the VERY least. Thanks, -ChrisReadynas OS6 future requests
1) Snapshot function on Home folders. 2) Snapshot cleanup Schedule/option for each share, e.g. be able to set that only snapshots up to 30 days should be kept - Automatic delete older snapshots 3) Option to start ReadySYNC client automatically for each NAS on Readynas Remote client 4) Add an ignore, delete or quarantine file option to virus detections Also see my buglist at http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=154&t=72312readycloud.netgear.com using INSECURE non-https!
readycloud.netgear.com redirects to a non-https address after login, giving authentication cookies and router access to anyone on a shared network (such as public wifi)! Https is used for login (if a weak version), but redirecting to completely insecure for router access is unacceptable.RN104 defrag problem
RN104, FW 6.2.4 4x3TB WD RED , RAID5 , x - raid , AV Off, Snapshots ON running apps : SMBplus , Transmission, Linux-Dash, PHPSysinfo, Cacti, BTsync 1.4, istat, PHP, instaled apps but turn Off: VPN server, Log analyzer UPS on front USB, 1 usb stick in back USB for backup When I start defragmentation (manually or as planned task), in 9 out of 10 launch in about 15-20 minutes will stop or at least restarting the admin web interface. At that moment Raidar 6 does not detect NAS. (or after a while telling me that admin interface is not running - if web admin interface wont restart automatically - than restart NAS with RAIDar is ony possibility for start admin interface again) In the log I find : Sat Jun 20 2015 5:20:12 System: ReadyNASOS background service started. Sat Jun 20 2015 5:20:02 System: ReadyNASOS service or process (readynasd) was restarted. Sat Jun 20 2015 5:00:02 Volume: Defragmentation started for Volume 'data'. and no other info about deframentation complete. (I downloaded full logs, but I'm not able find cause of this behavior.) Tried eject connected USB drive before defrag - no effect.ReadyNAS enhancement
I have a client using a ReadyNAS 312. They have 2 USB drives they use to backup the ReadyNAS contents. One stays attached and is the target for a scheduled nightly backup. The other they attach as desired and use the backup button to run a backup to the drive manually. We just replaced the USB Drives we were using with 2 new WD My Passport Portable USB drives. The cases of these new drives are different colors but otherwise the drives are the same make and model. The problem is that in the ReadyNAS "Overview" display there is no way to tell the drives apart so if I wanted to reformat one, or eject one, my only clue as to which is which would be any differences in the disk usage information. On the Shares/Browse screen each drive gets a unique, numbered designation and under Properties allows you to edit a description field for the drive but none of these labels show on the "Overview" display. I would like to see the "Description" field shown under the Shares/Browse screen added to the drive information displayed in the "Overview" screen so matching drives can easily be distinguished from one another.ReadyNas RN102 - Parting Feedback
Hi, I'm not sure if this will benefit anyone, or be taken on board but I'd like to give my feedback on about a years worth of usage with a ReadyNAS device. Storage/File Sharing (On the LAN) To set the scene a bit, this was my first NAS device that I've purchased and used. The original intention was as a secure, home LAN based central storage device which I could use to store and backup all our devices too. For this purpose, the device has served it's purpose well. File transfers, backups etc. while on the home LAN were decent and my initial impressions were good. Remote Access and Internet Sharing While it seems this is improving a little with ReadyCloud, it still seems very clunky. The client itself either doesn't conenct properly, or keeps logging out. I've never maanged to get it working consistently. Also, it's reliant on having the client installed. Secondly, I have to create seperate users accounts to connect from the internet? I don't understand why it can't hook in to existing internal users which I've already defined my groups and access permissions around. I didn't even bother going any further as I don't want to manage extra permissions. What I'd really like is the ability to log in to a web interface with any user account I create and show the shares I have access to. As it stands, I can forward a HTTPS connection through my firewall, but it still only lets me access the Admin interface with the Admin user. As a cloud device, it really doesn't stand up well in my opinion. Apps/Ecosystem As time went on, I started to look more into the apps and the whole ecosystem around the ReadyNAS. I started to try and migrate things like download clients, VPN, DNS etc. over to the NAS rather than on existing devices. While I was able to setup and run some of these, it was generally anything but a simple experience often involving SSH and manual updates (Which luckily I am generally confident doing). Apps in the ReadyNAS store were often very outdated, or broke the whole ReadyNAS interface. Some didn't work as expected, some not at all. While I understand that these are third party apps, I was still under the impression they were tested and approved by Netgear first? Even some of Netgears own apps seemed a little sub-par. The photos app really appealed to me as a way to share my photography without relying on an online service, yet I never managed to get it working and from what I could see it seems to have been abandoned. (I noticed a thread saying a new version is now coming, but it's a little late for me unfortunatly) Stability In general, I've not experienced a lot of problems, however the last few patches seem to have got worse in this respect. The most recent being uninstalling apps causing the web interface to crash. While I appreciated these things happen, that really seems like something that should have been spotted before release. Again, from a purely internal storage side, the stability is good. Throw in apps, and it gets worse. Anyway, that's some of my thoughts. I've decided to call it a day with the ReadyNAS, and look to a competitor who seems to offer a lot more features and solves all the issues above. It's a shame as this was a great introduction to a NAS device for me, but unfortunatly it can no longer offer the features I wish for. Hopefully as it develops further, Netgear can start to close the gap and bring a lot more of the features and ease of use to the OS. I wish you all the best and hope that this may provide some positive feedback! When will the scrolling be fixed?
Hi, I would like to know when the annoying scrollbar issue will be fixed on the ReadyOS? I sent a readyNAS back due to this. I have not tried on Internet Explorer but on Safari when you scroll up or down on any ReadyNAS page, especially the apps, it zooms past everything and you cannot stop in the right place making the NAS unusable. The scrollbar is way too sensitive. ThanksIs this forum official Netgear/ReadyNAS support?
I would like to know if, as I was referred here from the Netgear website, if this forum is officially part of Netgear's support service? I ask because there have been three issues which I have had with my RN102 which I have posted on here which, having been asked to provide further information which I have supplied, I have been left hanging with no further input from somebody who appears to be an employee. I try to avoid complaining but at the moment I am in a precarious situation with my RN102 seemingly unable to backup to Time Machine and, if this is official Netgear support, I am feeling extremely let down. If it isn't official Netgear support, I'd be grateful if somebody could point me in the right direction. Thanks.
