But I don't see how the NAS could ask for user confirmation on your PC when you are using SMB. Or FTP, DLNA, iTunes Server, AFP, NFS, etc. There is no mechanism for it to use.
If you want to reduce power usage while leaving the NAS available, then why not use "enable disk spin-down"?By default the RN102 has snapshots enabled. Any deleted files are shifted to the snapshot (so no space is freed up).

Well the software when the timmer reach the shut down time may send the request to pc user.
If no reaction for some seconds then shut down begin.
My nas os 6.1.1 has no spin down option. Or it has and i didn't see it ? I think there is no spin down option
