ReadyNAS 102

I just purchased the ReadyNAS 102 with 2 1xTB hard drives. I have read through the directions for the software and hardware and I am a little overwhelmed. I want to use it initially to store all of my pictures and all of my data on my laptop. They are all on my laptop and they total about 30 gig.

I want to use X Raid 2. I know that I need to create a volume that uses both hard drives as one volume to use X raid 2.

I am a little confused on where to start.
Should I create a volume first then assign the X raid 2 to the volume (that will be both hard drives as one volume)?

By default the NAS should automatically create the X-RAID2 volume you require. X-RAID2 is designed to be as automated as possible.
  • Thanks much for the response. I actually figured it out when I analyzed how the two hard drives were set up on the system. From the admin page it said I had 1.74 TB available of the 2.0 TB so that told me that the X-Raid2 was already set up because there was only 1 volume and it had the total amount of storage. Thanks much...

Now, I am having trouble getting my pictures onto the ReadyNAS. I can load single files like pictures, PDF files or Microsoft Office files. But, it will not allow me to drag and drop my picture file I have on my desktop. It is 36 Gig. I have gone to the instructions but I have not been able to find anything out about what I am doing wrong. Any guidance for me on this?
  • I guess maybe you are using the web interface instead of browsing to the share in File explorer (assuming windows)? If so try chrome browser. If not I don't know, I have a RN104 and was able to copy a single folder with over 30G of files no problem at all last night. You say 1 file, have you tried moving something large like a multi GB ISO? If it copies, does it go quickly and smoothly? if not maybe something basic like a bad network cable? PS you are not trying to copy 30GB over WiFI are you? if you are try a cable , see if that helps. many wifi setups are not good enough to move that much data without problems, but are good enough for smaller transfers.
