ReadyNas 104 Keeps Freezing up and becoming unavailable
I have several of these RadyNas 104's but I have a problem with one of them.
Even when there is no activity it keeps freezing up. All lights on, but no front panel. HDDs are spinning, if you try to remove them you can feel them spinning.
This NAS is never touched, its well out of the way so no-one but me ever touches it. I'm wondering - well i am actually suspicious of it being a power supply fault, as touching the DIN connector on the back causes it to reboot. Unplug & clean the DIN and socket then refit makes no difference.
Its running firmware 6.8.0. I haven't updated it because I have very bad experiences trying to update these NAS systems in the past.
If the network adapter is set Round-Robin (Twinned) Updates case Base64 Error, and I cannot rescue my data - Therefore I dont do updates unless the system HDDs are empty. Trying to reset the network adapters often also fails. The network adaptors "pairing" dont seem to be part of the reset procedure.
My question is this:
If I buy a newer Netgear NAS, will my 4 drives in RAID 5 swap over with no dataloss? - any recommendations? It doesnt need to be super great.

If you get an RN214, then you can directly migrate your drives. However, the RN214 will almost certainly ship with newer firmware than 6.8.0 - and it will automatically update the firmware on the disks to match the firmware in it's flash.
Similarly for an RN424 or above. Though those are x86 platforms, so if you have arm apps installed on the RN104 you will need to reinstall those after the migration.

Thanks for taking the time to reply - seems like good news for me.
The RN104 has been great (apart from trying to update it - that has been a nightmare with paired network settings), but I think this one is about to die :(
I'll buy a new power supply first and see if its that - its a bit weird that just even touching the din on the back causes it to restart, wiggling it in the socket causes it to go on and off and on and off etc.......so its either the power supply or the interface inside the 104....... but at least there is a backup plan - The 214 :)

Delete a Network Bond (round Robin) in 6.9.4 hotfix 1 and the machine errors with "kfree+60" - it has to be manually rebooted and the bond stays bonded.
